Christmoss tree

Polystichum acrostichoides AKA Christmas Fern
I’ve been watching this tree for 35 years. It thrives despite obvious hardship
What you see in the forest above the forest floor is just a fraction of what’s going. In the winter what’s going on underneath is plants and animals exchanging nutrients continuing to plan for the next season in their way. They do that. An expression of hope.
Lost in the Woods
I want to get lost
breathing shared air
walking in the lost woods
holding on to life
Lost woods are those
little forests set aside
to stand as microcosmic monuments
to wild otherness
Enter the lost woods
engage with their world
rest in peaceful commune
Sparked by Rachael Carson in Lost Woods:
Somewhere we should know what was nature’s way; we should know what the earth would have been had not man interfered. For there remains, in this space-age universe, the possibility that man’s way is not always best.
